Sontag Mag is a literary magazine appearing triannually and devoted to fostering a community of poets and translators and promoting works exceptional in craft.

Poetry readers at Sontag Mag form a part of a team of poetry readers working proportionally or alongside the Managing and Associate Poetry Editors and are responsible for reading through submissions of both poetry and translations throughout our three annual reading periods, each lasting one month, in January, May, and September, for our volumes published in April, August, and December. 

Poetry readers are also expected to regularly check the magazine’s Discord and email for announcements, deadlines, and updates and provide comments on submissions as needed.

As of May 2026, Sontag Mag will transition to Submittable for receiving and reviewing submissions. 

As with any other position at Sontag Mag, the role of poetry reader is volunteer-based and unpaid, though we hope to change this in the future.
